Increasing concern is being expressed that various chemicals and compounds may possess hormonal activity, and thus could adversely affect the endocrine system and developmental outcomes in wildlife and humans. Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has proposed to use short-term in vivo screening assays for detecting the estrogenic and androgenic properties of different compounds. These tests are all performed according to the OECD guidelines.
